Rattlesnake Creek had a lot of sudden outcroppings of very red rock.

When the red rock and Rattlesnake Creek intersected, the results were often impressive.

The trail along this section of Rattlesnake Creek was very ambiguous at times. This is looking back at a section of trail where we were actually able to identify it. There were places it was worse. There were no places it was good. Fortunately the steep section dropping into Kern Canyon did not keep with this trend!

Totally what the junction of two trails normally looks like. You can see both trails right?

Sometimes it takes me a while to figure out what I was taking a picture of. In this case, it was a lizard.

Rattlesnake Creek just keeps getting more impressive as you drop into Kern Canyon. The switchbacks ocasionally take you right next to the water.

It's hard to express just how much this waterfall got downgraded by photograhpy. That is a large amount of water dropping a good long way. I was tempted to wake up early so I could get this shot with the morning sun. It's just kind of shocking how meh this ended up in the photo. I obviously did it wrong because this is not a meh falls.

The established camp where the Franklin Pass trail hits the Kern River is not farther than 100 feet from the river. It also is full of snags that make it an unattractive campsite for folks who don't like playing the dead tree lotory.
